Our Home...Christmas Edition

Since last year's Christmas decorating consisted of a pine-scented candle (due to being weeks out from a move/living in the apartment and not knowing where our Christmas boxes were), I was very excited about sprucing up our home for the holidays this year.  Not to mention, it is our first Christmas here in the new-ish house.  I tried to keep it simple--I'm not really into a complete overhaul of my usual decor when it comes to Christmas stuff.  I like to try to just add it in to my usual decor when possible.  It makes the process of putting it away much less painful!

And here's what things are looking like around here (in no certain order)...

Our tree...it looks a bit shrimpy in this house!

Not wanting to fool with garland up the stairs (and not having well-placed outlets for it), I made some wreaths to hang on the outer balusters.  Much easier!

I purchased the red pillows for Christmas, but I think I may keep them out permanently.  I really like them!

Four Years...

Andy and I celebrated our four year wedding anniversary this past week.  To celebrate, we headed to the mountains of Blue Ridge, GA again this year.  We actually stayed in the same cabin that we chose last year...we LOVE the views!!!

Due to the cold, we didn't get to hike like we normally do, so we did a lot of movie watching, reading, eating, and some shopping was thrown in there too.  This was my view from the couch for most of the weekend.  My sweet boys!

It's crazy to think how far this little guy has come since last year!

Andy and I talked a lot about how fast the four years have flown, yet how much has happened in that time.  In our fourth year, we purchased our third home (and moved AGAIN!), Andy completed his first year as a Controller, I completed a year of teaching kindergarten and started a new school year teaching fourth grade, we traveled a bit, and much more.  We have both learned so much about love, marriage, and each other, and we hope year 5 is our best year yet!

Lighting Love...

Poor Andy has been working like a dog lately.  October is a big month in his hospital accounting world, so he has been working long hours even on weekends.  Well, all that wrapped up this past Friday (thank goodness!), so he said he would make it up to me on Saturday.  Alabama just happened to have a bye week this week (funny how that works, huh?), but I took him up on it anyway and decided I wanted a day in the city.  So off to Atlanta we went!

I wanted to make an IKEA and Target run for sure, and I hoped I could also talk him into a few other stops.  I didn't want to push my luck too much, so we started with lunch. :)  If you are ever in the Roswell area, Brookwood Grill is SO delicious!  It reminded us a lot of J. Alexander's--great salads!!!

Surprisingly, I only came home with a few spoils from our trip.  And even more surprising--Andy was the only one who made a purchase at IKEA!  An ice cream cone and shoe forms for his dress shoes (99 cents each--he was stoked).  My big find of the day came at the Ballard Designs Outlet.  There are 2 in Atlanta, but we went to the larger, more heavily discounted location.  After looking around, I spotted something I immediately recognized and had to know more about...

After all of the discounts were applied, I scored my pendant for less than 100 bucks (tax included!).  I was pretty excited.  Andy wasn't totally swayed until I showed him a few pictures online AND showed him the retail price--that always helps!

The new light will be replacing this small chandelier in the eat-in kitchen area.

The existing fixture is not at all offensive, but I can't wait to see what the new one will look like in the space!

Here she is!  I have yet to figure out what is wrong with this light.  Let's cross our fingers it isn't something that will keep it from turning on!  I guess there is a chance that it might have been a return, and there may be nothing wrong with it at all.  Here's to hoping!

Andy has promised to get this up sometime this week.  Pictures to come!  Think this will finally make us come up with a kitchen table option sometime soon???

Basement Progress...

As seen in my last post, we have been trying to give the basement a little love lately.  Not every room in the basement has been given attention, but we have made some progress down there.  Here we go...

This is the first part of the basement that you come to when coming down the stairs.  The stairwell comes down to the right in this picture.  The door on the left leads to a large stubbed bathroom that we currently use as a storage room.  No need for an attic here!

We grouped our diplomas above the couch (they went with the color scheme).  Oddly enough, we met after we had each chosen our colleges/graduate colleges, but we both managed to graduate from Lipscomb University and Tennessee Tech University.  Weird, huh?

The rug was intended for the outdoors (from Pier 1).  I had watched it for months thinking it might be a fun basement addition, but I did NOT want to pay the nearly 200 dollar price tag.  I waited and waited and ended up scoring it on clearance in Atlanta for 40 bucks!  The pillows hail from IKEA and Kirkland's (all cheap finds), and I found the chevron pouf in Rome at Tuesday Morning.  Even though none of the items above are truly crimson, it works for me!

The houndstooth chair that has now been through 3 homes and an apartment.  Still love how it turned out!

Moving on to the next room...the pool table room.  Andy received the Alabama pool table cover last Christmas--I love that it covers that yucky green felt on the table! You can see the striping we completed on the walls--I love the pop that it adds.  We also brought our old kitchen stools (that wouldn't fit under the kitchen counter here) down to provide seating for pool players--it works well!

Again, the FatHead will go on this wall.  I am still a bit paranoid about putting it on the walls right now (it's still a bit warm/humid here).  I've asked Andy to hold out just a little while longer until it cools off for good for us to put it up.  The houndstooth pillows were actually a Wal-Mart find (Better Homes brand) and were really reasonably priced!

His vintage Alabama posters and stadium shot ended up on the long wall...

And another old print was dug up for the other wall.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the room.  The new paint really goes a long way to brighten the space and takes years off of the room.  We intend to carry the paint into the other rooms now that we've seen the change.

And while we are down here, another less-photographed room--my craft room.  I really love this room with the built-ins, but I've yet to do much with it.  I'm planning to hem my yellow bird curtains (from our previous dining room) to put on the windows, and I'd like to build/buy a table for my sewing machine/scrapbooking stuff.  Maybe one day!

More home progress to come!
