Let's hear it for the boy...

So, not only can Andy blog about money matters and draining water heaters, he can also use power tools!  He gave his new saws a go this past weekend, and I am SO proud of the results.

No, really.  I think I need to have more faith in this boy--he totally pulled it off.  After he finished, I kept saying, "Andy, it's a real table."  I mean, I was just so thrilled that his very first project looked so legit.  Andy would be the first to tell you that "this" or "that" is not just perfect in the table design, but I absolutely think he did a bang-up job.  He is the most humble person I've ever met (which is what I love about him), and will likely be petrified that I've posted all of this about his first go with furniture making.  But I am determined to convince this boy that he is very crafty and me likey.  Before this is all over, I'm making him sign the bottom of this table just for kicks--watch me.

Progress...

DONE!!!

Love the paneled top...

For those interested, he used an Ana White plan (we had heard so many good things about her building plans--she didn't disappoint!) that basically copied this Pottery Barn table:

Now, I have the job of deciding on a stain for the table.  I think I'm going to try out some different stain options on his scrap wood before I mess with his first wooden creation.  I'm also going to try out a paste wax (for the first time) to seal it, and will let you know how that works out.  Until then, I'll just be looking for other pieces I can talk Handy Andy into making me (after he creates the twin to this table, of course).
