First Anniversary Trip is BOOKED!!!

Andy and I had been talking for some time about traveling for our upcoming anniversary.  There is definitely something to be said for getting out of the house and away from the children (or dog) for a bit to enjoy being together.  We easily get caught up in the hustle and bustle and sometimes fail to spend meaningful time together.  So, we are totally psyched about the trip we just booked!!!

When we considered places to visit, one of the first ideas that came to mind was Bozeman, Montana.  I mean, seriously, how cute would that be?  The Bozemans in Bozeman--it's truly meant to be.  I eventually WILL make it there.  However, for now, we have decided to take a trip to the Smokies.  We are headed to the mountains for our anniversary!  I am SO excited about it.

I started my search for a place to stay on the Vacation Rental By Owner (VRBO) website.  This site is SO easy to use, and I feel like you find much better deals going this route.  I was envisioning a little cabin tucked away in the mountains (yet conveniently close to the outlet mall in Pigeon Forge), and that is precisely what I found.  I came upon a 1 bedroom/1bath cabin that I really liked.  It was a new cabin complete with a hot tub, game room, and great view--count me in!  The owners were also running a special that granted me one night free.  Too good to be true.  Here are a few pictures of the cabin from their website...

The View!!!

Can you tell I am thrilled to have our trip nailed down?  Now we just have to wait out the fun!

P.S. --Try to scroll back through and find the TINY television in the living room.  I might have failed to mention to my football-loving husband that this is the main TV in the cabin.  I definitely talked up the good deal I was getting, the view, and the game room.  I guess the TV situation just skipped my mind!  Oops. :)

My First Collage...

As many of you know, I have been mapping out a collage for a wall in our bonus room.  I bought the frames, found a layout I liked, bought more frames, and recently ordered the pictures to go in the frames.  Tonight I began hanging paper versions of the frames on the wall to know where my nails needed to go.  Although the process took a bit of time and effort, it was really worth it!  I'm pretty proud of the finished product!

I started with my frames and some paper...

Then I began tracing out the frames...

After I cut out the frame tracings, I taped them to the wall in the arrangement I wanted.

I actually placed the nails with the paper still on the wall.  This helped me to ensure that I was nailing in the right spot.

I set the middle frame first and worked my way out.  I adjusted the paper as I went.

The finished product!

A close-up view...

I then realized that I had never put Duncan's silhouette in a frame, so I decided to exchange the "and" picture with his picture.

Here is a better picture of the silhouette.  I would tell you more about where I ordered it, but to be honest, I had to doctor it up a bit.  He looked more like a lion than himself when I first received the silhouette in the mail, so I took a box cutter and trimmed him up.  Much better!

My photos should be in from Snapfish any day now.  At that point I can show the completed collage.  Hopefully it will all come together!

Finally Fall...

We are LOVING the cooler weather around here.  Duncan acts like a little school boy everytime he gets outside--he frolics around like the change in temperature is the greatest thing that has ever happened to him.  I've also gotten excited about the change in season, so I've pulled out a few fallish items for the house.

I've changed out our front door wreath for fall.  One of my besties gave this to me for my birthday, and I really like the way that it pops on our black door.

I have these little cuties on our living room coffee table.  My mom picked these up at a fun little shop for my birthday.  Although they slightly resemble birthday hats or teepees, I really love them!

Not so much on a "fall" note, we made a little curtain switcharoo (again).  We moved the living room curtains to the back office and added bamboo blinds.  I really like the curtains better with the lighter paint color, and I think the pattern will really help to liven up the office.  I'm still considering my options for the living room curtains.  I think I want to go neutral with the curtains in there so I can go wild and crazy with my pillows and accessories.  We will see!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. So long for now!

Carpet Craziness...

Well, it has been quite busy here at the Bozeman house.  Our new carpet was installed today--AWESOME--but a lot of work had to be done to prepare for it.  Here we go!

First, the office was painted while we still had the old carpet.  This room had to be emptied prior to painting...

Another shot...

And another...

Next, the attached bonus room also had to be emptied to prepare for the new carpet.

The empty bonus room...gotta love those stains!!!

Yes, Andy and Duncan posed for this one...

And again from a slightly different angle...

Duncan wanted a picture with his toy. :)

Where did all of our junk go???

To our living room...

Awful, I know...

We definitely deserved a spot on Hoarders...

We also junked up the dining room!

However, all of the moving, shifting, lifting, and sweating was WELL worth it.

Because we got to come home to this today!!!

And this...

Duncan and Andy danced the night away on our new, comfy, clean carpet...really, what is he doing?

Ah...the office.  Much better!

Duncan has not taken his tush off of the new carpet.  No, really.  He has wallered and played on the floor since I got home from work.  Who knew a dog would notice new carpet?  And yes, he received a haircut this week (and apparently a neck-lengthening treatment).

Here is a close up...

So then, after we enjoyed staring at our new flooring for a while, we reluctantly vacuumed and moved all of the furniture back in.  Not fun!

Don't worry--only a bit of college football was sacrificed for the moving of furniture.  As pictured here, the boys got right back to business after the work was done.

Another shot...no really, don't move boys!

This chair will eventually go with the new (used) desk my dad is giving us from his office.  Our office is going to be my next focus.  We have many of the right elements, but we've just never really put it all together in an organized way.  I have high hopes!

I decided to go ahead and hang these back up for now (I already had the nail holes).  Who knows where I will need to place items on the wall until I have furniture in here!

Well, as you can see, we have been busy beavers around here.  We are looking forward to a relaxing weekend!

Strike a pose...

It all started with me deciding to add a silhouette of Duncan to our upcoming collage.  I thought I would be all crafty and do it myself on the computer...and it didn't go so well. Long story short, I kept accidentally removing Duncan's one black ear and nose when I removed the black background in the photo.  Since we weren't intending to create a creepy collage, I decided to let someone else do the work.  I found a girl on Etsy who would take a picture of our little guy and turn it into a silhouette.  She even let me choose the colors I wanted to use.  It is set to arrive any day now!

This is hopefully close to what our silhouette will look like.

And here are a few shots of us attempting to get a side shot of Duncan for the silhouette...

At first, it was a complete refusal to stand up.  He only wanted to play with his toy.

Andy tried to force the issue...not working.

Then started the toy bribery..."You can have it back if you stand still..."

We got pretty close here, but for whatever reason he couldn't seem to lift his bottom.  Too many treats?

FINALLY!

Special Note:  Duncan was not harmed in the striking of this pose. :)

All in an afternoon's work...

I woke up this morning with no intentions of painting...promise! I got up, ate some breakfast, and ran a few errands.  Then it hit me...we are getting new carpet on Thursday.  All of the furniture has to be removed from the back room/office before then anyway.  I don't like the paint in the back room/office with the new carpet choice.  DING!  The light bulb went off.  An empty room to paint in with no worries of messing up new carpet--count me in!

This is what I started with today...no, I am not proud of this.  For those who do not regularly visit our blog, this is our "catch-all" room.  When I first moved in, my belongings were basically dumped in this room and we have yet to recover.  This will hopefully be an office (and only an office) very soon.  Having new carpet will definitely be a motivator for getting this clean.

Another shot...

This is what it looks like almost-empty.  The dresser did not get moved...it's heavy and there is no good place for it to go right this minute.  This was good enough for me.

Another shot of the room...

And another...

After everything (minus dresser) was moved out, I began the process of painting.  I decided to go with Porter's Lincoln Home Beige because the attached bonus room also has this color on the walls.  I liked the way the color worked with the new carpet choice (coming Thursday).  I also figured it would work well for a future sale of our home.  Easy decision.

The newly painted office!

Another shot...

And another shot...

After seeing the finished product, it makes me wish I had painted it sooner!  However, as many of you know, I have had many more pressing painting issues that preceded this project.

On a side note, I really felt like lightening up the color helped to not only brighten a usually-dim room, but it also helped to make the room feel larger.  I always tend to go for paint colors with more "oomph" than this color, but I really think this was the best choice for a smaller room on the backside of our home.  If you ever feel cramped and depressed in a room in your home, try cleaning it out and painting it a lighter hue.  It works wonders!

Also on a side note, this was my FIRST painting project completed with NO painter's tape.  HUGE deal!  My mom (Master Painter) has told me for many moons that I need to wean myself off of painter's tape.  It cuts down on time and all of the real-deal painters paint without it.  Well, I bucked up to the challenge and tried it.  It went really well!  I saved the top trim out (up against the popcorn ceiling) for last because that is what I was most worried about.  But, I took my time AND I invested in a smaller trim brush this time (1.5 in.)--it really paid off.  I feel like a kid who's just taken the training wheels off of her bike. :)

The proof that NO tape was used in the completion of this paint job.

On a completely different note, I stopped by Ole Faithful today (TJ Maxx).  I had a $10 rewards certificate to use.  I found a find for $12.99.  Another easy decision.

Aren't these little puppies cute?  My mom had bought the brown and white ones a while back and I had been pining away for them ever since.  I can now pine away for something else.

Have a good night!
