Things around the house...

We've worked on a few little things around the house this weekend.  First off, my mom finished our new living room curtains...and I am in love.  No, really.  I knew I loved the fabric when I spotted it in the fabric store...but to see the same fabric in drapery form framing out our window...it's FINALLY exactly what I've wanted all along.  As some of you may remember, I've already tried out two sets off curtains on this window.  But, I am absolutely positive my search is over.  I love them, Mom--promise!!!

So my mom brought up the curtains, and it was our job to get the curtain rod ready for hanging.

I spray painted the rod, finials, and brackets red (to keep things fun), and then Andy set out to do the installation.

As you can see, I am LOVING the new curtains.  I think I am really beginning to find my sense of style in decor.  I am getting better at seeing something I love and knowing that it will work with the direction I am moving in with the house.  I truly believe that it takes many mistakes, time spent in the home, and lots of browsing to really get a sense of what you love in decorating.

Such as this little guy.  I loved the shape of the base, size and style of the shade, and was most definitely smitten with the yellow color.  It was a definite must-have.  LOVE.

I know I don't play by the rules with decor, but I feel like our home really reflects me (us).  Andy and I both love color (especially reds) and comfort.  That is our home in a nutshell.  Go ahead, break all the rules and make your home look like you.  I said so. :)

The next weekend project was my newsprint wreath (that I have been wanting to make for weeks).  Dearest Andy stopped by Michael's after work one day last week to pick up the remaining supplies for the project, and it took getting to the weekend to finally find the time to get started.  It took some time and a few hot glue burns, but I really like the finished product.

I started with these supplies.  A styrofoam wreath (12 in.), hot glue gun and glue sticks, and an old book.

I rolled the pages one by one and hot glued them along the wreath...

Thanks Andy for the action shots...

And again...

And I added layer after layer of rolled up pages...

To get this!

Another shot...

I have yet to decide where I am going to put the wreath, but for now, I just like looking at it.  It is truly a project that you can't mess up.  For a much more detailed look at how to complete this project, click here.

That's it for now!
