Collage Project...

Well, here at the Bozeman house, we have a slightly awkward wall in our bonus room.  I have struggled for some time with what to hang on the wall.  Just one painting or wall hanging wouldn't work, and I have ALWAYS wanted to try a wall collage.  So, push came to shove and I've decided to try my hand at it.

I used the last of our Wal-Mart gift cards (sad!) from our wedding to purchase the frames, and now I am in the process of choosing the pictures.  On that note, these Canopy-brand frames look very similar to a line of frames from IKEA--the best place to buy frames for a collage (in my very humble opinion).  Here are a few pictures of the process thus far...

The weird wall...see what I mean?

I started with seven frames.  Collages MUST be made with an odd number of frames (says mi madre, the decorator).

Second layout...

Third layout...

**This is where I decided I needed nine frames instead of seven.**

So I improvised for the eighth and ninth frames...

The final layout...

I decided nine felt more substantial, which is what I really need for this wall.  The next step will be to trace out the frames on butcher paper and tape them out in this arrangement on the wall.  Once I have the paper frames in the right places I can place my nails and hang away!  I also have to be choosing artwork, photographs, etc. for the frames.  I am considering a silhouette of our furry friend, Duncan.  Any thoughts?  I'll keep you updated!

  1. Looks like a great plan! I'll be excited to see the finished product (especially so I can copy it)!!!

  2. My father in law would have the hardest time with a wall like that. He hates when frames are crooked or off just a little, and he would constantly be moving them around until it was just right. Ha! Maybe I should do this too, just to see how he responds! :) Looks cute!
